Your whale watching Reykjavik adventure begins at the old harbour, just minutes away from the city center! We offer you two different types of whale watching tours: CLASSIC or EXPRESS.

Tour description

On a Whale Watching tour with Special Tours Wildlife Adventures you will be able to experience some of Iceland’s rich and thriving bird life, as well as visit our large variety of sea-life, including minke whales, humpback whales, harbour porpoises and white-beaked dolphins among other whale species. Our focus is on comfort, unique experiences and personal service while making sure the environment is protected and respected in every way possible.

Enjoy a sail out in our spacious boats, providing you with extra comfort, fantastic interior and seating areas, large outside viewing decks and a safe family environment. Our expert guides and friendly crew will welcome you aboard, share with you interesting information about different kinds of whales and seabirds you may expect to see on your tour and will teach you how to spot whales out in the bay.

Special Tours Wildlife Adventures operates one of the largest and also one of the fastest whale watching passenger boats in Iceland. We proudly follow the IceWhale code of conduct to respect & protect the nature of Iceland.

All aboard on one of the largest whale watching boats in Iceland! Fantastic inside and outside areas with plenty of space for everyone and a café & souvenir shop on board! With an on-board display of whale teeth, bones, baleen, plankton nets and a microscope, this tour truly is a hands-on floating Whale Watching classroom with educational & interactive focus!

WHALE WATCHING EXPRESS [1st June – 30th Sep]:

Join our fast and luxurious boat, which will get you to the whale watching grounds in only 20-30 minutes! Perfectly built for whale watching with a high cruising speed. Even though the total time is about 1 hour less than the classic whale watching tour you spend about the same time out in the feeding grounds searching for whales.  A great tour for those who want to spend less time out at sea but still want to experience a true whale watching adventure from Reykjavik.

Important information

The tour is dependent on weather and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Weather and sea conditions can be unpredictable during the winter months. Our captains will make their decision to sail based on many years of experience, always keeping in mind passenger safety and comfort.

We can never guarantee sightings on our tours, but in case of no sightings we do offer a FREE ticket to try again!

Sometimes in the winter we might sail from other harbours south of Reykjavik for better sea conditions, in which case we provide transport for all our passengers to and from Reykjavik. In this case the tour might be slightly longer due to the extra drive.

Don’t forget to add your admission to the Whales of Iceland Exhibition, the perfect add on to your whale watching tour!
