We left the harbor in Reykjavík with a lot of sunlight and good weather. The wind picked up a bit out in the bay, but not too much. After sailing for a bit we spotted a Minke whale quite close to the boat. It turned out to be a bit shy so we decided to leave it alone. We saw huge patches of fish in the water and many different seabirds feeding. When we got further out, we spotted a Humpback whale. It had some bits of a fishing net tangled around its body, but it didn’t seem to bother it. Soon it started breaching out of the water and gave us a great show! We then spotted a second breaching Humpback whale further away, but we stayed close to the first one. We watched it jump many timea, extremely close to the boat. We then headed back home and briefly spotted a second Minke whale on the way back.

Friday morning started with choppy ocean and strong cold wind from the North. We headed out to Faxaflói ready for the adventure, cruising out in the troubled seas. We cruised out for almost half an hour. It was difficult to spot the whales since the waters were tricking us all the time. Suddenly we saw a couple of spouts at the distance. Our captain sailed that direction, and the closer we got the clearer the spots were. Finally we met the whale, it was a very big individual of  a Humpback whale. Beautiful sighting although the rockiness! Later, while waiting for the Humpback to return to the surface after a deep dive, we spotted a pod of Harbour Porpoises just in front of us.
