Northeast wind, quick harbour porpoises and fast white beaked dolphins

04.Dec 2015

We were not far from the old harbour when we saw a group of harbour porpoises. They came up several times on their course towards Akurey.

There was a strong northeast wind and long waves came from that same direction. Our captain sailed northwest, towards Akranes, and then changed the course to southwest. By doing so the wave and the wind came behind Andrea so the motion was smoother.

Around the feeding ground we found a fast moving pod of white beaked dolphins. They were feeding but had time to come up near the ship a couple of times.

On the course to east some more white beaked dolphins appeared briefly in front of the ship.

Over the course of this wildlife excursion the wind calmed down and the weather got better.
