Breathtaking bay of Faxaflói, 2nd act

19.Jan 2016

Today there was a slow wind from east, visibility was good on the bay and improved around the coast over the course of this wildlife excursion. The good weather condition and sailing on Rósin (the Rose) permitted us to search a much wider area than usually.

We sailed towards the feeding ground heading northwest out on the breathtaking bay of Faxaflói. Increased presence of seabirds, not only northern fulmar this time, like kittiwake and northern gannet was well observed as we search the entire feeding ground before heading north having a look towards Borgarfjörður.

From there we went south east searching well closer to the coast, passing by the town of Akranes before finally looking around for spout and dorsal fins at the entrance of Hvalfjörður. From there under the majestic mountain Esja we sailed towards southwest, going around Kjalarnes and eventually finding our way back to the Old harbour in Reykjavík again.

Unfortunately we did not have luck with finding marine mammals so a complimentary booking was offered for another try.
