After a short sighting of a group of white-beaked dolphins on Saturday and two stormy days, we were finally able to sail into the Faxafloy bay. We were expecting some swell in the bay and cold wind so we offered our guests seasickness tablets and warm overalls if needed and sailed into the bay. On the way out, accompanied by northern fulmars, we were sailing with the wind, searching for any signs of the whales. After about 40 minutes we spotted the first big group of seabirds. These were cormorants and in big numbers! It looked like a few hundred of them resting on the ocean after stormy days. The captain decided to check the area bit closer, but as we did not find any cetaceans, we kept sailing deeper into the bay. After turning around towards Reykjavik we were luckier as suddenly, just 50 meters in front of, us we spotted a pot of harbor porpoises. These cute, smallest of our cetaceans were swimming swiftly possibly chasing some fish. We slowed down and were trying to follow them but being local masters of swimming in stealth mode they disappeared from sight. For the rest of the tour, we were graced by the beauty of the bay in the winter. and we offered our passengers a complimentary tour with us some other time.
