WHALE WATCHING CLASSIC

09:00

Conditions this morning were a bit on the rough side, but we decided to set sail anyway. Part of the scenery around us was enveloped in a thick curtain of mist and rain, giving the mountains a solemn and eerie feeling. Even the familiar silhouette of Mt Keilir was almost completely obscured. We spotted multiple species of seabirds along the way: first northern fulmars joined us skillfully soaring through the whitecaps while small groups of Atlantic puffins often crossed our path. We also managed to spot northern gannets, Manx shearwaters, at least three species of seagull, common guillemots and even an Arctic skua that was resting on the wavy surface of the sea. It seemed that the whales had other plans for us today, as we couldn’t spot any blow or fin in the distance. Though in a sense we came back to the harbour empty-handed, everyone was invited to come again for another chance.
