First Lights Of The Season

01.Sep 2022

It was our first Northern Lights by Boat tour of the season, and conditions were looking great! Although the skies had been cloudy for much of the day, just as we began boarding, large gaps appeared where stars began to twinkle, and by the time we departed there was barely a cloud in sight. Only a short while into the tour, our cameras began to pick up a faint green glow over Esja, which grew in intensity until we could see it for ourselves – the aurora had begun! Throughout the tour the northern lights waxed and waned as if they were breathing, alive – at some points we were even treated to some nice displays of green curtains slowly swaying over the mountains. In between we were able to do plenty of stargazing, planet-gazing thanks to Jupiter, and even some satellite-gazing as well! It was a lovely evening out on the water, and an excellent start to the season.
