Our morning was very successful, first of all we spotted white-beaked dolphins which were a lot of fun. There was 3 of them to start with and then the pod got gradually bigger until we had 7 or 8 animals in front of us. The dolphins had a calf with them which is always amazing to watch. One of the dolphins even started to breach out of the water as if to show our guests, what he is capable of. We decided to give the dolphins some rest and sailed further until we reached an area with plenty of bird life. There we spotted 3-4 different minke whales one of which stayed extremely close to us. We stopped the Andrea and just kept on whale watching, sometimes the minke would be further away until swimming towards us again. This individual was quite curious and swam as close as 5 meters to our boat!
A wonderful morning for all our whale watching guests.
Gorgeous weather in the whale watching bay!
The sun couldn´t have been more powerful in our lunch tour; a lot of our guests took a sunbath on our large viewing deck upstairs on our way back to Reykjavík harbour.
We got a call about a pod of white-beaked dolphins which turned out to be quite shy, so we kept on sailing quickly. If the whales show no interest its best to leave them to themselves…After a while we spotted a minke whale which took very long dives, so again, we decided to head further. After some searching we found a minke whale which showed more of himself, and we got to see the spout, the dorsal fin and parts of the back many times. The minke whale even rolled over in the water and we got to see one of the flippers. Later we spotted another minke whale, which turned out to be humpy, the whale we have been spotting many times in Faxaflói bay already this summer. We also saw 2 harbour porpoises briefly as they swam alongside the boat.
Amazingly sunny whale watching tour with 3 whale species!
The sun was still shining with all its power as we left Reykjavík for some evening whale watching. We found a minke whale which preferred to take deep dives so we kept on sailing until we saw another minke whale which we followed around for some time. We saw the dorsal fin and parts of the back many times and we also got to see the spout of the whale, the fountain of water you see everytime a whale breathes.
We got a call about some white-beaked dolphins but as we arrived in the area, they had mysteriously disappeared. But this is Mother Nature, you never know how long the whales decide to stay…
Towards the end of the whale watching tour we got to see another minke whale which seemed to be travelling.
To the delight of our passengers we got to see quite a couple of puffins in our whale watching bay, Faxaflói.
