It was a truly rough morning, but a truly good one. We managed to find a whole three species, and a number of individuals! First, we came across white-beaked dolphins who were putting on a great show and jumping around like little mammalian lunatics, then a couple of minke whales showed up in the area, graceful as ever, demurely surfacing for a couple of seconds at a time. Then we had a couple of harbour porpoises come to inspect us, before some boisterous white-beaked dolphins returned and scared them off with their magical jumping tricks.

The whales are indulging in a sleepy end to September, or so it would seem. As the waves continue to get rougher, we try harder and harder to find them. But sometimes, the whales just do not make that possible. It seems they are also hiding from the sudden change in weather. Lucky for us, there is an absolutely incredible landscape to enjoy as the snow falls on Mount Esja, and everyone gets a ticket to come again for free to play when the waters are calmer.

Our first (and only) Express whale watching tour of the day found us watching both toothed whales and baleen whales: we were treated to sightings of minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, and harbour porpoises. We were happy to get these nice sightings in before the weather grew worse later in the day!
