Today the wind had picked up quite a lot after yesterday’s beautiful calm day but this didn’t deter either of our whale watching boats from going out and finding whales. We headed out into a somewhat choppy Faxaflói bay. After yesterday’s very successful 5pm tour we sailed straight for the same area and at once found hundreds of diving birds feeding on fish just below the surface.
perfect whale spotting conditions
Today started with a little snow but over the course of the day the sun came out and more of the coast around the bay was seen. First we found one minke and another one that threw itself slightly from the surface. This lead to finding of more minke whales that came close to the ship and clearly showed its entire head.
Today, with nearly a full boat, we enthusiastically headed to the bay! Once we left the harbour we could feel the waves softly splashing us on board! In this sunny warm bright day the peninsulas that enclose the bay were clearly seen and the landscape was stunning. Along the trip we could enjoy the company of some Puffins and Common Guillemots.
We met our good old friend Humpy the Minke today
Due to the wind from north, this morning, the tour was made from Grindavík
We headed on Faxaflói bay, with slow wind from north east, heading for the feeding ground of the whales.
Complimentary tickets for everyone and lots of birds 🙂
Out again on the bay of Faxaflói, to the west, we ran into two pods of fast moving harbour porpoises
