The Whales of Iceland museum is a fantastic addition to our whale watching tours! You will get to learn even more about the whales that live in Faxaflói Bay and around Iceland during your visit. Whales of Iceland features life-size, hand-painted models of 23 species of whales, dolphins, and porpoises. Enjoy this unique experience to walk through the world of whales, enjoying the soothing whale songs, ambient underwater lighting and beach-like floors. You can see just how big these amazing cetaceans actually are while you stand next to the models – and you are welcome to touch and explore each whale!
Award-winning documentaries are shown daily on a large cinema screen in our Fin Whale Theatre, included in the cost of admission. The films variously discuss whale conservation, research, and other fascinating subjects. The theatre also features a conservation exhibit, developed in cooperation with the International Fund for Animal Welfare and local whale scientists. The documentary Whale Wisdom is screened daily at 10:20, 12:30, and 14:40, and Sonic Sea is screened daily at 11:20, 13:30, and 15:40.
A daily live-guided tour is also available for free for all ticket holders at 11:00 and 15:00.
Whales of Iceland is located just 15 minutes walking distance from our ticket office in the Old Harbour, in the Grandi area. Grandi continues to grow and welcome additional museums, shops and restaurants. Once you have experienced all that the museum has to offer you can finish your visit with a freshly baked pastry & cup of coffee in their Whale Cafe. Make sure to purchase a souvenir in their gift shop on the way out – this unique shop has a variety of souvenirs from local and international artists.
