Today we had some wind from the east that later, over the course of the day, slowed down and also the sea became calmer. We headed out to the north west on the bay of Faxaflói. Shortly after we briefly saw some white beaked dolphins but since they did not surface again we continued further to the west.
The Northern lights season is slowly coming to an end (we’ll be operating until the 15th of this month) so we were very happy that the forecast for tonight was promising. It is getting brighter everyday and soon it won’t be dark enough anymore to see any Northern lights.
We spotted a Minke whale quite far out in the bay. It kept going for deep dives, so there must have been a lot of food for it to eat.
This tour was quite unique, as after sailing for about 5 minutes, we spotted a blow behind us, so we turned around to investigate. Turned out to be a Minke Whale.
Here´s to hoping the weather improves over the next days.
After sailing for a while, we saw a pod of White Beaked Dolphins, many of them were surfacing together, and we probably had around 10 of them in total.
We sailed from the Harbour in Hafnarfjörður out into the bay, due to unfavorable weather conditions outside of Reykjavík. We spotted a lot of seabirds on this tour, like Auks, Eider ducks and Fulmars, but the most noticeable one were the Gannets. There were so many of them flying around, and we noticed that they started dive-bombing, a behavior they show when feeding.
