This morning there was strong wind from the north so our passengers were warned that the condition at sea might be rough. We sailed to the north, with cover from the mountains, and had a closer look at the coast next to the mountain Akrafjall. From there we sailed to the west, past the town of Akranes, and further out on the bay.
Before leaving, James, the puffin watching guide, showed our youngest and passionate passengers some interesting echinoderms: different star fish and sea cucumbers. Very cute! After this, and with a very uplifted mood, we headed out to Faxaflói. The day was cloudy and chilly, but right after leaving the harbour we started seeing different species of seabirds.
It was a bit wavy again out in Faxafloi bay today but this did not stop our larger boat Andrea […]
Today we sailed out of the old harbor in Reykjavík and we had calm waters. The whole day it was very cloudy and rainy. During all the tours the big amount and variety of seabirds such as gannets, Arctic Terns and Northern Fulmars was remarkable. It seems that the waters of the bay are being very productive. We spotted during all the tours some different Minke Whales, white beaked dolphins, Puffins and a pod of Harbour Porpoises. It was a great day!!!!
This morning there was some wind from north west and following that also some wave movement from the same direction. As we headed out, the course set to north west, some four white beaked dolphins came quickly up to the surface and disappeared again. We continued and found a large gathering of almost every type of seabird that frequents the bay. Among them were arctic terns, puffin and northern gannets.
Dark calm waters in a very cloudy chilly day. Today the big amount and variety of seabirds was remarkable, it seems that the waters of the bay are being very productive. We spotted around five different Minke Whales and a pod of Harbour Porpoises.
Rósin sailed, with the sun intensively shining above us, out to Faxaflói Bay. The deep blue peaceful waters seemed to patiently await the boat, which with its motion softly broke the smooth waves with its hull. The variety and abundance of seabirds, harmonically dancing on the surface of the sea, guided us to a good whale watching area.
Today we sailed out of the old harbor in Reykjavík, and knowing it was gonna be very windy, we prepaired everyone. Only a few minutes out of the harbor, we saw a big group of Arctic Terns and Northern Fulmars feeding at the surface.
Today the wind had picked up quite a lot after yesterday’s beautiful calm day but this didn’t deter either of our whale watching boats from going out and finding whales. We headed out into a somewhat choppy Faxaflói bay. After yesterday’s very successful 5pm tour we sailed straight for the same area and at once found hundreds of diving birds feeding on fish just below the surface.
The gray calm sea with steely glitters, due to the sun rays trespassing the thick mass of clouds, welcomed Rósin today in the morning! Although the waters were expected to be rough it turned to be a wonderful day with plenty of Minke Whale sightings. We saw around 7 different individuals in the feeding grounds, surrounded by sea birds also seizing the abundant and available amount of food in the water.
